Pre-Surgical Evaluations

Many life-changing surgical procedures including Spinal Cord Stimulator implant and Bariatric surgeries require a pre-surgical psychological evaluation to assess the patient's readiness and preparedness for surgery.

  • Bariatric Evaluations are about 90 minutes in duration. These evaluations are comprised of a comprehensive interview that focuses on weight history, health behaviors (including exercise and eating patterns), as well as your understanding of post-surgical requirements.  Individuals will also complete paper and pencil measures of personality and emotional functioning as well as eating behaviors and attitudes about food. The examiner will provide an written impression regarding the patient's readiness for surgery approximately one week following the evaluation.

  • Spinal Cord Stimulator pre-surgical evaluations also last about 90 minutes in duration. These evaluations consist of a comprehensive interview that focuses on your pain history and prior attempts at pain management as well as your understanding of the surgical procedure and post-surgical requirements. Patients will also complete paper and pencil measure of personality and emotional functioning to help determine appropriateness for participation in the surgery.
