Pre-Employment Evaluations for Public Safety Officers

Psychological evaluations are helpful to reduce risk for individuals, agencies, and communities for those in the public safety field.  Psychological evaluations are often conducted for pre-employment, fitness for duty, and special assignment. We can assess applicants for positions such as police officer, corrections officer, firefighter, dispatcher, and probation officer, as well as incumbent officers who are moving into special assignments, or who have encountered some psychological problems (or exposure to critical incidents) that are affecting their ability to perform the essential duties of the job.

As a courtesy to public safety offices, evaluations may be given in a group setting on-site at your agency if you have the need for several evaluations to be completed.

A comprehensive psychological testing battery, which takes about 3-4 hours to complete, is administered to the potential employee.  This battery is designed to collect a large amount of information from the applicant in a structured and efficient manner. The test battery includes measures of emotional stability, normal personality traits, and anger management.  The applicant will also participate in a comprehensive interview with a clinician covering employment, education, driving, finances, arrests, substance abuse, relationships, and mental health treatment as well as other topics.  Finally, a report summarizing the results of the interview and the interpretation of the tests is written. The report is intended to be easy to read and offers a clear recommendation regarding employment.
